Sensoterra Single-Depth Soil Moisture Sensor (Wireless)

Product Status & Support Going Forward

Verdi has paused sales of Sensoterra probes. Sensoterra probes have been removed from the Verdi catalog and are no longer available for purchase from Verdi or through our partner channels. Verdi will continue to support all currently installed Sensoterra devices on the Verdi Dashboard for the remainder of their useful life.

What remains supported

  • Existing Sensoterra probes already deployed in the field continue to operate normally on the Verdi Dashboard.

  • Soil moisture readings continue to flow into the Zone Graph, and battery and network status continue to appear on the Device Card.

  • The Sensoterra integration will be maintained as the Verdi backend evolves, so currently installed devices keep working over their remaining battery life.

  • Bugs affecting existing installations will continue to be addressed by the engineering team.

What is no longer supported

  • New sales of Sensoterra probes (single-depth or multi-depth), including through Verdi’s partners.

  • Adding new Sensoterra devices to the Verdi Dashboard — the existing fleet is the final fleet.

  • Battery replacement or device refurbishment. Sensoterra probes have non-replaceable internal batteries; once a device reaches end of life (typically 6–8 years), it must be discarded and will not be replaced with another Sensoterra.

  • New feature development on the integration. Planned but now-paused improvements include: updates to the device model and registration flow, local-mode integration, multi-depth probe support, and soil-calibration enhancements. These are paused indefinitely with no committed timeline.

  • Range and connectivity improvements. Sites with long distances to the gateway, heavy obstructions, or variable soil salinity (which can interfere with Sensoterra moisture readings) should evaluate Verdi’s other supported soil moisture options.

For new soil moisture deployments, please contact your Verdi representative to discuss currently supported probe options.

Quick Start Guide

  1. Install into the Ground

The blank metal pins on the sensor stem are the measurements points. These need to be in full contact with the soil for a good measurement. Install the sensor in the soil. If the soil is soft, you can push the sensor fully into the ground. The sensor should be installed so that the blue head is sticking out of the soil.

  1. Add Device to Verdi Dashboard

The device is battery-operated/wireless and has a built-in radio; no wiring is used. Open the Verdi Dashboard, select Add Device, scan the QR code on the probe and select device “Sensoterra“.

  2. Activate the sensor… Flip it!

Wake the sensor by flipping the sensor upside down for 2 seconds. Normally, the sensor makes a measurement once every hour. By flipping it upside down, the sensor tries to get a connection faster.

  3. View Data

After 1 hour, check the Verdi Dashboard Zone Graph for soil moisture data. In certain cases, it may take up to 48 hours for the first data point to appear in the graph. This process is to ensure the best possible connection on the network.
After 1 hour, check the Verdi Dashboard Device Card for device data like battery and network status.
