How to Automate a Diesel Irrigation Pump with the Verdi Block Controller and Murphy TEC-10

Prev Next

To control a diesel engine-powered irrigation pump using the Verdi Block Controller in conjunction with a Murphy PowerCore® TEC-10 controller, follow these steps:

Introduction

Verdi Block Controller: A wireless, battery-powered device designed for remote control and monitoring of irrigation systems. It can deliver a pulse output, and when paired with a dry contact relay, effectively simulates a level switch to trigger external controllers.

Murphy PowerCore® TEC-10: An electronic controller that provides comprehensive engine management, including auto start/stop and auto throttling. It supports various input configurations, including digital inputs for start/stop functions.

Integration Steps

For detailed wiring diagrams and configuration settings, refer to the respective user manuals of the Verdi Block Controller and the Murphy PowerCore® TEC-10 controller.

  1. Connect the Verdi Block Controller to the TEC-10 Controller
Wire the Verdi Block Controller’s pulse output to the Verdi Pump Relay and then wire the Pump Relay to one of the TEC-10’s digital inputs configured for start/stop control.

  2. Program the TEC-10 Controller
Access the TEC-10’s settings and configure the relevant digital input to respond to the short-circuit signal from the Verdi Block Controller and Pump Relay.
Set the TEC-10 to initiate engine start upon receiving the short-circuit signal and to stop the engine when the signal ceases.

  3. Testing and Validation
Press the water on button on the Verdi Block Controller to send a pulse signal.
Verify that the TEC-10 responds appropriately by starting the engine.
Ensure that stopping the pulse signal results in the engine stopping, if configured to do so.
